Blue 03:46
Blue I heard the voice That showed but couldn’t see I drew A line through Voodoo Who knew Radio shuts off You turn out the light I know it’s the last time Been too long in here Mighty tired I have to say Time to be getting back on my way Lights up when I disappear Lights off means I’m still here Your blue jeans grow dark And your eyes roll white Too late to change my mind The tulips outside have bloomed and petals spread Time to be getting off up ahead Lights up when I disappear Lights off means I’m still here Turn the key Make sure it’s locked tight Rub it out And watch it fade white I drew A line through Voodoo I’m blue

Nice Truth 04:17
Nice Truth I thought I saw What looked like your eyes Slipping through the crowd like what I imagine Might look like you now What was that Dripping in your hair Brushed across your eyes Hidden from yourself in the rain and the mist You never slipped my mind I think I saw What had caught your eye Slipping through the crowd like what I remember Might look like you now Thinking back on faces that I’ve known Who looks like you now Truth be told I barely remember But the concrete’s wet and there’s a bite in the air I heard you Ringing in the ear Wash away something And it reappears Walking in the dusk where the light begins to fall Heard you faintly singing Where the water slips into the sand Ripples in a pool and burning fog Cold smoke climbs into the air Something old and covered in dust Caught a glance of you like a flash in the mirror I’m here to remind you I’m here right behind you Rising to my feet like the tide onto the beach You gave me something I never asked for Gently crashing in the ear Ringing in the ear There’s a bite in the air yeah When you appear I can feel your eyes and their damaging stare Fights in the air and you try to stay near Whisper to me now like a total eclipse Tell me something about myself I left back there I’m sure I thougt you said I thought you said I thought you said We’d never find you there I thought you said I thought you said I thought you said We’d never find you there

09 31 09 Could be time Change your mind Move on and place it behind Gonna find Other kinds 09 31 09 Scene from a day in the recent past Crack and flake into leaves and grass The end Nothing much Nothing much Think of something from the recent past The end Time run out now Time run out Time run out now now now I’m behind Got no mind Hair on the back of my neck this time Gonna find Other kinds 09 31 09 Scene from a day in the recent past Crack and flake into leaves and grass The end I’m already I’m already Laying my shoulder on the dark imitation leather Well Time run out now Time run out Time run out now now now

about

“Blue” is a sampling of songs culled from Kayla Guthrie's repertoire as a self-taught musician dating back to 2008. Developing a style that foregrounds her unstudied voice and surreal, psychologically-charged lyrics built onto stark, loosely-structured instrumentation, Guthrie has been inspired by figures who fuse ritualism and pathos into expressive hybrids of word, song, and/or performance.

This 4-song EP was crafted from the raw materials of Guthrie's live backing tracks, mixed and overdubbed with new vocal recordings in the home studio of engineer Grady Owens over the period of one year.

Released on vinyl by Mixed Media Recordings, 2015.

Reliquary V is the electronic music project of avant-garde musician Kayla Guthrie, who was motivated to deepen their production and DJ skills after immersing themselves in the vibrant queer underground Brooklyn rave scene. With gothic visuals influenced by the murky threshold zones of after-hours parties, Reliquary V expresses a genderfluid and queer self formed in otherworldly nightlife realms. ... more
